Hiya Guys!!!

Just a quickie, Im seeing a Mally pup tomorrow...7months old called Amber. However she has no doc's and no one seems to know who her breeder was i have a bit of info but not allot, but wondered if anyone on here knew where she might come from??

She’s originally from the Plymouth area, Falmouth? And was owned by a security man?? Ive been told she was show bred. She’s not KC registered but she has been micro chipped and vaccinated.

I want to do agility with her, if of course I do get her.

Anyone know anyone from down there that had a litter about 7months ago???

Thanks Guys

I dont know if your going to be pleased or not Ian, but we brought the Malinois home from BSD Rescue yesterday afternoon.Cry  I know she isn't a Vapresto dog but the poor thing needed a home.  She's a beautiful dog Smileand judging by the way she leaps upstairs will certainly make a good agility dog.  She was a bit warey of our 2 Tervs and a bit snappy at first, but overnight and today she has settled in very nicely and my 2 dogs have accepted her without any dramas, although Timber Crywasnt too pleased when she polished off the remainder of his dinner.LOL

Hey, I don't mind at all...  I know you've been thinking of getting a malinois for a while and I have no intention of branching out from Tervueren, so it's nice that you've helped one out that needed a new home Clap

However -

What a lovely dog!  How on Earth have 4 people been able to part with her in the past!!!

Are you sure she's a malinois?  She's got a longer coat than Dash had a few weeks ago - LOL

I shall look forward to seeing her at the shows Thumbs Up

So glad she is calming down some , as is obvious from the pic lol .  My Cruise lies like that all the time , although in the car he is still back and forth like mad .

With the car thing - have you tried using a crate?  Sometimes dogs feel more comfortable in a crate just big enough to lie down in, but not big enough to roll around on corners.  It's the only way I can get my Blitz to settle in the car.

That is a great idea .  When I had my jeep that would have worked , but now , I have a 4 dr Nissan and , with the angles of the back doors , its impossible to put a crate back there , at least one that Cruise will fit into .  I wonder if the dog seat belt would help ?  My concern is that he might get freaked out and tangled up when I am driving and cannot pull over to untangle him .  Horrid image #1 :  Going down the Deerfoot at 100+kph and he starts screaching in fearShockedShockedOMG .  If I fill up the other side of the back seat with boxes , that helps as he doesn't have the room .  As soon as I take them out , however , he starts up again .  In the year since I got him , it HAS gotten better , but he still has that intensity in the car to a large degree .  MMMMMMMMM , I might have to buy another Jeep in the near future , your idea sounds like the best .
thank you so much
Dana

Not sure where you can get them from, but I have seen a sort of 'dog-tube' that goes on the back seat of saloon cars.

Alternatively, how about a soft cage (i.e. one made of canvas, with mesh sides)?  We use one in our motor-home and it is brilliant (doesn't damage the upholstery like a metal cage does).

Hi Dana,

Ive used a dog seat belt with Timber before in my Fiesta on the back seat. Hes very good and will lay down and stay down while he's wearing it.

How old is Cruise?, Dont you just love it when they lie on their backs like that, they just seem so happy. I love the fact that my dog Amber is so happy now, its not nice to see them so scared and unhappy when they have had horrible homes before hand. I also love it when she waggs her tail now, because then i know she is really happy!!

Cruise is 5yrs old .  He was 4 when I got him .  I am going to try that seatbelt just around my neighborhood and see how it works .  Yes , is it not a wonderful thing to see a dog changing ?  The first official day of Cruises adoption , I was sitting on the stairs and he came and sat next to me .  I put my arm around his shoulders and WHAM he bit me and took off .  That was soooooooo stupid of me , I knew his background and should not have pushed that fast , but , hey , we humans react  emotionally sometimes lol .  I followed him and kept with him until I had both my hands on him (gently but firmly) , I stayed calm and tried to let him pick up on that calmness , and I got him to lay down .  He was growling like mad , and continued to do so for about 3 minutes .  Then he just roll over and gave in .  Boy , I could tell by the look in his eyes he was waiting for a negative reaction from me .  I just touched him gently and let him know he was safe .  Then I went and cleaned up my hand .  After that , he never bit me again .  Every day I touch and massage and even pick him up , and , although he still is not 100% comfortable , it gets better each day .  Every little victory is so amazing .  4 months ago he finally started having a different look in his eyes .  I can see he is starting to have some inner peace and , really , that is my goal .  Some day I will have another dog that I compete with , but for Cruise , just getting him balanced and happy is the mission .  It is just such a huge reward to know that abuse for most of a dogs life is not the end .  They can regain their confidence and zest for life .  Cruise is certainely with me for the rest of his life and I have to continue to be a trustworthy leader to him .  He is really just such an amazing dog , tooooooo smart , so much fun to be with , and lately , quite the cuddler with my roommate and myself (not with strangers) .

I don’t know if anyone can help me, as you’re all aware we re-homed Amber who’s an 11 month old Malinois. However since my dads been in the Falklands and when im at work during the day she has started barking slightly aggressively towards my Mum. The barking is non stop right in front of her and she also bites at my Mums arms/Legs and pulls her lip up. This of course is rather frightening, and we bought Amber a spraying collar so when she barks it sprays but this doesn’t seem to be working for her. We've also invested in a muzzle as a last resort but it’s trying to catch her to put it on. Ive said to mum to try and distract her with tip bits and try and get her to sit but this also isn’t working. Amber only does this when im not home, and since Dads been away. She gets on well with mum otherwise. When im home she’s fine and very well behaved (for a puppy!!)......

And I was wondering if anyone had any advice pleaseeeeeeee??????

Thanks

Hi

You are more than welcome to phone me at home.  I would strongly advise not using the spray collar.

Very best wishes.

Amanda,

the advice you gave me isnt working and infact she was worse than ever this evening when I took timber to agility class.

Do you think its going to take a long time to get this out of her?

Thanks
